I didn’t have any idea where I would travel to until I came across this funny YouTube video by Trevor insinuating how a government official in a small East African country recommended that two male lions be taken in for counselling after being photographed in compromising positions.

That’s how I ended up in Nairobi National Park in Kenya and here are a few highlights of my tour.

Visiting Nairobi National Park in Kenya

A Visit to Nairobi National Park

Location

Nairobi National Park is located about 7 km from the center of Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. In case you haven’t heard of Kenya, it is the mother country of Barack Obama’s father. That should ring a bell. It’s located less than 10 km from the JKIA, which is most likely the airport that you will use should you arrive in Nairobi.

Pricing for Nairobi National Park

Since 1 October 2025, KWS charges non-resident adults $80 to enter, citizens of other African countries $40, East African citizens Ksh 1,000 and Kenyan residents Ksh 1,350. Fees change, so check the current rates with KWS before you go. There are also several tours to Nairobi park from Nairobi, you can see a few options below.

How you tour the Park

There are two options. You can go in with your car, preferably an all-weather vehicle or pay for a trip using the Parks Tour vehicles. Every tour is conducted by a tour guide who takes you to the best places to locate different animals.

There are also several tours to Nairobi National Park from Nairobi, you can see a few options below.

What animals can you see

Ever heard of the big five? The elephant, the rhino, the buffalo, the Lion and the Leopard? You will find four of them here: rhinos, buffalo, lions and leopards. The park has no wild elephants, but you can see orphaned elephant calves at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust nursery near the main entrance. There are still other animals but these impressed me the most. To make it even better, there is an animal orphanage within the park where you can see Lions, Leopards, Hyenas, Warthogs and a large number of birds. In the simplest words, you will have fun.

This was my first time in Africa and I sure had a lot of fun. The people were friendly and my one week vacation was perfect. If you are looking for a place to visit, this is a good place to check out.

Accommodation in Nairobi National Park

You can also stay over in the park, there are various accommodation options available including camping and luxury lodges.
