Day 1-4: Valletta
Valletta is the capital city of the small European island country of Malta, and what a sight this city offers. No matter what time of day you arrive, you will be treated to some beautiful scenery of the town itself, with its mesmerizing narrow laneways, sea views, and quirky shops and restaurants to discover. You will have two full days and nights here so relax and get ready for the adventure.Â
Some of Valetta’s top attractions include:
- Upper Barrakka Gardens (free admission)
- The breathtaking St Johns Co-Cathedral, often described as the gem of the city
- The State Rooms of the Grand Masters Palace (temporarily closed in 2023)
- Siege Bell War Monument, located right beside the Lower Barakka Gardens
- Valletta Harbour, Malta’s main maritime gateway
Be happy that you will have a few days here because you will have time to explore and enjoy the Three Cities of Vittoriosa, Senglea, and Cospicua, which you saw from the Baracca Gardens. These three cities offer you an insight into the real way of life in Malta and take you back in time, given that they were founded by the Knights of the Order of Saint John in the 16th and 17th Centuries.
This is just a short boat ride from Valetta, and here you can spend the day soaking in the atmosphere, visiting the sites, and enjoying a local dinner on your last night in the area.
On one of the days, be sure to take a scenic Harbour Cruise around the two natural ports of the Grand Harbour and Marsamxett and you can opt to visit the nearby coastal towns of Sliema and St Julians Bay, which offer quiet fishing village vibes, and another side of Malta.

Day 4-5: Mellieha
On the way from Mellieha on the north coast, you will pass a few towns which you must stop to explore, and these are Mdina, Rabat, and Mosta. You will need a full day to explore these beautiful towns, with a host of castles, palaces, and scenic views to behold.
Mdina is an ideal place to explore on foot, where you can visit St Paul’s Cathedral and Vilhena Palace, while Rabat is said to be the place where Paul the Apostle looked for refuge when his ship sank in the area. Mosta on the other hand is a place where you can find a magnificent monumental church that was inspired by the Roman Pantheon.
After a culture filled day, you will make your way to Mellieha where you can spend a couple of hours at one of the beautiful beaches or relax at one of the local restaurants, enjoying some local food such as Torta tal-Lampuki (local fish) or Fenkata (rabbit stew).
Day 5-7: Gozo & Comino
After a morning spent enjoying the beaches and town of Mellieha, you will make your way to the small island for a few hours of enjoyment on your way to the bigger island of Gozo. Comino is famous for its Blue Lagoon, which is known for its crystal-clear water, ideal for snorkeling and swimming. You can also visit the Comino Sea caves or take a stroll on the island, which offers fantastic views. Be on the lookout for the food trucks which serve some local snacks and cold drinks.

Gozo is a highlight during any trip to Malta and you can look forward to experiencing sites such:
- Ggantija Temples
- Calypso’s Cave
- Citadel in Victoria
The following day you can expect to visit Xlendi Bay and Dwejra – known as the Azure Window and The Inland Sea, before making your way back to the mainland of Malta.
Your last full day includes a full discovery of the south of the island, before returning to Valetta for your last night on the island.
Some of the highlights you will feast your eyes on are the famous landmarks starting with the quaint fishing village of Marsaxlokk, where you will get great photo opportunities of the colorful Maltese boats.
Still on the agenda is Birzebbugia before arriving at the Blue Grotto in Wied Iz-Zurrieq, a stop at Hagar Qim temples, and lastly, a stop off at Ghar Dalam Caves.
